Writing prompts stop making sense when they skip the stakes

I was scrolling prompts the other day and saw one like 'a door appears in your kitchen' and I thought, cool, but then what? So many prompts just set up a weird situation and leave it at that. If there's no tension or a reason to care, my brain shuts off after the first paragraph. I ran a little writing group last month in Austin and we tried a rule where every prompt has to include a cost or a deadline. The difference was huge, suddenly people were actually finishing stories. Does anyone else filter out prompts that just describe a scene without any hint of conflict?

That rule sounds solid but the cost or deadline thing is more of a hack for getting unstuck than a fix for what makes a prompt inherently good, lol. A weird scene can totally work if there's a hinted question like why now or what breaks it, not just a timer.
