Thought that "write a letter to your character" prompt was silly until I tried it on my stubborn detective
I always skipped those letter prompts in my writing group, thought they were a waste of time. Last week I finally tried it in a coffee shop in Boise and my detective wrote back, telling me exactly why he keeps lying to his partner. Now I have 3 pages of his voice I never would have found. Anyone else get real material out of a prompt they thought was dumb?
