That prompt about 'a stranger leaves you a voicemail' saved my writing slump last night
I was staring at a blank page for like 45 minutes last Tuesday, totally stuck. Then I scrolled through this sub and found a prompt where someone gets a mysterious voicemail from a wrong number. I set a timer for 20 minutes and just wrote what happened next without overthinking it. Ended up with 800 words about a guy who calls back and gets tangled in some small-town rumor. Has anyone else used a specific prompt to snap out of writer's block, or do you just wait it out?

Right! A timer forces your brain to just commit and get messy.

@the_evan that's exactly it. I did a 3 minute gesture drawing session the other day and my cat came out looking like a potato with legs, but at least I actually drew something instead of staring at a blank page for 15 minutes lol. Timer pressure just overrides the part of my brain that wants everything to be perfect right away. It's like the difference between trying to land a perfect jump vs just getting the ball in play.
