Just realized I stopped writing prompts alone at 2am and started using a random word jar with my writing group
Two years ago I sat in my apartment in Austin cranking out three horror prompts a night and burning out by Thursday. Now I pull two words from a mason jar my group passes around (last week: "dentist" and "lighthouse") and I get four or five usable prompts in twenty minutes. Does anyone else lean on a random input like this, or do you just stare at the blank page until something shows up?
Wait, you were cranking out three horror prompts a night solo? That part is not quite right in my head. A prompt is just a seed, so where was the burnout coming from? Unless you meant you were writing full stories or scenes, which makes way more sense. The mason jar thing is great though, my group did something like that with song titles and it worked better than any app we tried.
