Had to choose between a quick lift and a full rigging check on a Friday afternoon

The foreman wanted to move a 5-ton HVAC unit before the weekend, but my gut said the old nylon slings looked worn. I told him we needed new gear, which cost us two hours but the sling snapped right as we started the test lift. Anyone else ever push back on a rush job that turned out to be the right call?

Sounds like a lucky break, but was the gear actually rated for that load?

Sometimes the gear rating is just a suggestion... it held, didn't it?

Honestly that gut feeling is the real safety gear... it's crazy how often people want to skip steps just to save a few minutes. You see it everywhere, from rushing a home repair to skipping the manual on new tech. That two hour delay probably saved someone's life, and that's never the wrong call.
