Drove past the site of a 22 unit apartment complex I managed back in 2018, and the trailer is still sitting there behind a chain link fence with the same dent in the door from when a sub backed a forklift into it. What got me was the whiteboard. You could see it through the window, still mounted on the wall, and I remembered every column on it like it was yesterday. We had a color code for everything, red for inspections, blue for concrete pours, black for deliveries, and every single morning started with somebody standing in front of that board. Now everything is on a tablet and the super pulls it up on his phone while he's walking the deck. Part of me misses when the whole schedule was in one place and you could just point at it. We tracked 14 change orders on that board over 11 months, and I bet right now nobody could tell you what happened on any of them without digging through three apps. Anybody else walk past an old site and feel like the job moved on without the tools that got it built?
