Found out I was scheduling crews wrong for 2 years because a foreman in Phoenix asked one simple question
I always built my schedules by backing into the dates. Owner wants the building done in June, so I worked backwards and plugged in the trades wherever they fit. Felt smart, honestly. Last month a foreman named Dale on a Phoenix job asked me why the electricians were booked before the framers finished the second floor. I said that's just how the dates fell. He said nothing, just pointed at his clipboard. I walked the site and saw it. The electricians were standing around for 3 days waiting on walls that weren't up yet. That one question cost me maybe $4,800 in standby time on a single job. Now I build the schedule forward from the actual sequence of work and let the finish date land where it lands, and I tell the owner no when the dates don't work. Anybody else get humbled by a crew guy who saw the problem way before you did?
