A foreman in Bakersfield walked my site and said my RFI log was 'a diary, not a tool'
I ran a small tenant improvement job last month and my RFI log had grown to 38 open items with no owner or due date on most of them. He pulled three examples and asked me who was supposed to answer each one and by when, and I could not tell him. That night I rebuilt the log with a column for the responsible party, a promise date, and a flag for anything that blocks the schedule. Now I review it every Monday at 7am with the super and we close or escalate anything sitting past 10 days. Anyone else have a format for this that actually gets subs to respond?
38 open items with no owner or due date? That is wild. I cannot believe you were walking around with a log that big and nobody knew who was supposed to answer what. The foreman was not wrong, and that is the worst part. My old super used to make us write the sub's name and a date right on the RFI before it left the trailer, and if it sat past a week he was calling them on speaker in the office. Ten days is generous.
