Stamped concrete vs. broom finish for a 900 sq ft driveway in Boise, which one holds up better?
I quoted a customer in Boise last month for a 900 sq ft driveway and gave them two options: stamped with a release agent or a simple broom finish. I pushed the stamped because it looks great and they wanted curb appeal, but three weeks after the pour I noticed two hairline cracks near the expansion joints where the stamp pattern was deepest. The broom finish driveways I did in the same neighborhood five years ago are still holding tight with no visible cracking, and I'm wondering if the extra surface work on stamped jobs makes them more prone to early issues. What do you all tell homeowners who want the pretty look but live in a freeze-thaw area?
