Shoutout to the foreman in Tulsa who said broom finish is for driveways, not warehouse floors
Back in February I was on a 60,000 sq ft warehouse pour off Highway 169 in Tulsa, and the foreman told us to broom the whole thing like always. I pushed back and said a flat steel trowel finish with a hardener would hold up better under forklift traffic, but he said broom gives grip and that is what the spec sheet from 2009 said. Three weeks after the pour, the customer called about the ruts and dusting at every doorway, and we spent nine days grinding the whole slab down. I get it, broom is fast and cheap, but speed on pour day cost this crew way more on the back end. If you have fought a change order over finish type on a big slab, what did you say to get it through?
