Why does nobody talk about how a $3 tube of thermal paste can save a motherboard
I was at a client's place in Denver three weeks ago, and their PC kept shutting down after 10 minutes of use. I opened it up, and the CPU cooler was basically glued on with dried up crusty paste. I scraped it off, put on some cheap thermal paste I had in my bag, and boom, temps dropped from 95C to 65C under load. The client was about to buy a whole new computer over a $3 tube of paste. I've seen this same thing at least five times this year. Why do people always jump to replacing hardware before checking the basics? Does anyone else run into this or is it just me?
