Lost comms with my tender at 60 feet in the Mississippi last Tuesday

I was doing a routine inspection on a bridge pier near Baton Rouge when my comms cut out completely around 60 feet. I tried the backup hand signal line twice with no response, so I waited a slow 3 count and started my ascent on the umbilical. Turns out the tender's headset battery died and he didn't have a spare in the van. What do you all keep as a backup comms plan when you're already in the water?
