500 feet on a single dive" changes everything. I always add 50% more gas to my planned reserve now.

...and that's what I read in the accident report from a few years back. The diver thought he had enough reserve but didn't account for how much extra gas you burn just thinking clearly at those depths. @ramirez.caleb I'm with you on the 50% rule, maybe even 60% if the water's cold or you're wreck diving. It's one of those things where you hear the story and go "yep, that could be me" if you get too comfortable. Better to surface with a full tank and a boring day than the alternative.
