Had a wake-up call about our surface communication setup

I always thought our radio checks were overkill, lol. Last job, we had a minor issue with the coms, and for a second, I couldn't hear topside. It was just static, and I panicked a bit. We sorted it out quick, but it made me think. If that happened during a real emergency, we'd be in deep trouble. Now I see why we run those checks so often. It's not just busywork; it's what keeps us safe down there. I've started doing extra tests on my own gear too. Honestly, it's a small thing that makes a big difference.

Tbh, constant checks can create a false sense of security in my experience.

You're not wrong, @logan_ellis97. My own over-checking habits have definitely tricked me into thinking I'm more on top of things than I really am.

Yeah @the_jesse, that false security thing is real, but for me it's less about feeling in control and more about feeding the anxiety loop. Every extra check just gives the worry more power, like it needs to be fed. It becomes this ritual that doesn't actually fix anything, just wastes time. You end up stuck checking because not checking feels worse, not because it helps.
