Almost ran a 30 minute bottom job on a harbor piling because the backup reg looked fine on the gauge

Gauge said 3,000 psi but it was the wrong reg the whole time, and I caught it during the pre-dive bubble check at Pier 9, not underwater. What's your go through before you trust a backup reg on a working dive?
