Showerthought: Picking between a full run of New 52 Batman or just the Snyder/Capullo trades

I was at my local Half Price Books last Saturday and had to choose between grabbing a complete set of New 52 Batman issues for $80 or just the three main trade paperbacks for $30. I went with the trades because I figured I'd actually read them faster and save shelf space. Has anyone else ever regretted not going for the single issues down the road?

Hold up. Snyder and Capullo did the whole New 52 run, not just the first three trades. If you only got the first three, you're missing "Endgame" and "Superheavy" which are some of the best parts. The collected editions actually have a weird gap too - the Joker's face being cut off is in "Death of the Family" but the actual confrontation happens in the "Joker: Death of the Family" crossover book that's separate. You probably saved money and shelf space, but you'll end up hunting for "Batman Vol. 7: Endgame" eventually. Trust me, I had to track down a used copy last year because I skipped it at release.

That whole thing is just like trying to follow a TV show on Netflix but some key episodes are only on a random streaming service nobody has lol. It drives me nuts how these big comic storylines get split up across different books and then you have to buy a separate crossover collection just to get the full picture. I swear half the time it feels like they do it on purpose to get you to spend more money, kind of like how game companies sell you a base game then drop 50 DLCs for the actual ending. You end up with this weird bookshelf where you have volume 1 through 3 and then a random used copy of volume 7 you hunted down like a treasure map.
