Had to decide between collecting every variant of a single issue or sticking with just the main cover

I chose to go after all 12 variants of Batman #608 from 2009 and after blowing $140 on the last one I realized I preferred the original Jim Lee cover all along, so has anyone else chased a variant run and ended up regretting it?

Man I get that, I've done similar stuff. What made you pick the Jim Lee one as the one you liked best in the end though? Was it the colors or the composition or something about the cover design itself that stood out after you had them all in hand? I'm curious if it was a specific detail on that variant that made you go 'oh yeah thats the one'.

Oh man, totally! I had the same thing happen with a Batman cover a while back... I grabbed a few variants and thought I knew which one I wanted, but once I actually held them, it was like a totally different story. The Jim Lee one just pops in person, I think it's the way the inks catch the light or something, makes the whole thing feel more alive than the others.
