Overheard a barista in Portland say 'coffee is just a delivery system for milk'

I was waiting in line at a shop on 3rd Avenue last Friday and the guy behind the counter said that to a new hire. It hit me that I've been treating my morning cup that way for years, just dumping in creamer without tasting the beans first. So this week, I've been drinking my first sip black, no matter what I brew. It's totally changed how I pick which bags to buy. Anyone else make a switch like that and find a coffee you actually enjoy straight?
