A guy in the break room said our tolerances were just suggestions and now I can't stop laughing
We were running a batch of 500 aluminum brackets last Thursday and the new guy asked how tight he should hold the +/- 0.005. Old Dave looked up from his coffee and said "just get it close, the inspector's on vacation." I lost it because that's the same guy who once stopped a spindle over 0.0002 on a gauge pin. It got me thinking that half the skill in this trade is knowing which numbers actually matter and which ones are just there to scare the new guys. So how do you all decide when to chase a tenth and when to let it ride?
