Stood on my roof in Duluth at 5:40am for 3 weeks before I cracked the ring cloud trick
So about three weeks back I started driving to the hill off Skyline Parkway before work because there's this open view east over the lake, and the first two weeks I kept missing the good stuff. Then a guy walking his dog told me the trick is to watch the ring clouds around the sun, since they show up maybe 20 minutes before the cloud bank itself gets lit up. Now I check that halo first, and sure enough, 9 times out of 10 the shot is set up before the color even hits. Anyone else got a tip like that for catching clouds right at sunrise?
