The solar array at my brother's place in Bakersfield only paid off because he changed one thing first
I'm not against solar, but I think folks get it backwards. My brother put panels on his roof in Bakersfield two years ago and his first summer bill barely moved. He was cooling a 1970s house with one attic fan and no shade. After he spent about $1,800 on attic insulation and a couple of shade trees, his summer bills dropped from around $340 to $110. Those panels work way better when the house isn't leaking cold air out the windows. Everyone at his block party was asking about panel brands and nobody asked about the insulation. What upgrades did you all do before the panels went up?
