Can we talk about my first community garden plot failing in 2021

I was in Sacramento tending my 4x8 raised bed and the whole tomato row wilted in one 100 degree afternoon, turned out the drip timer I set for 6am was watering at 6pm, and it took me two months to realize my neighbor's shade tree was blocking the sun, so now I track soil moisture with my finger and plan around the tree's shadow, has anyone else's garden plan gotten wrecked by something you never thought to check?
