Burnt $240 on those 'compostable' bags that fell apart in a month

I bought a 3-month supply of those plant-based compostable trash bags from a green startup back in March, thinking I was doing the planet a solid. By week two they were tearing if I looked at them wrong, and by week four I had a bin liner full of coffee grounds splitting open onto my kitchen floor in Portland. I reached out to the company and they basically said I was overfilling them, which felt like a cop-out. I get that compostable plastics can be finicky, but is the trade-off worth it when half the bags end up in a landfill anyway because people get frustrated and give up? Has anyone found a brand that actually holds up without costing double?
