The gas station on Route 9 charged me $4.50 for a hot dog and the roller grill had been off since noon
Stopped at the Shell on Route 9 outside Poughkeepsie last Thursday around 2pm because I was starving and figured a quick dog and a bag of chips would hold me till dinner. Grabbed one off the roller grill, bit into it at the register, and it was straight up cold in the middle, like they never turned the thing on that day. I told the kid behind the counter and he just shrugged and said the manager handles the grill and he wasn't in till 4. So I asked for my money back and he said he couldn't do refunds on hot food once it left the case. I stood there for a second, then walked over, grabbed three more dogs off the grill, squeezed them all in my hand so he could see they were cold, and put them on the counter. He gave me the $4.50 back in cash. Now I press the side of my thumb into anything off a roller grill before I pay, and if it's not hot I just leave it. Anyone else get burned by a cold roller dog or is it just me picking the wrong stops?
