Hot take: I always figured Cap'n Crunch was just a knockoff Tony, then I read the 1963 timeline
For years I lumped Cap'n Crunch in with all the other copycat cereal mascots and never gave him a second look. Then three weeks ago I was killing time at a used book stall in Cleveland and picked up a beat up cereal ad reprint from 1963 for two bucks. Turns out the Cap'n got his ship and his crew years before Tony ever put on that red bandana, and the whole rivalry fans talk about got built backwards. I sat in my truck for 20 minutes just staring at the dates. Now I feel bad for calling him a knockoff in that thread 6 months ago. Anyone else get their cereal history this backwards, or was it just me?
