Took me 9 hours to fix a crown molding corner I thought would take 20 minutes

The ceiling in the hallway was off by nearly an inch at the joint, so I kept cutting and recutting until I finally shimmed the whole run out, has anyone else had to walk away and come back the next day to crack a tricky corner?
