I was putting up a custom bookshelf in a Denver loft and realized I'd cut every single shelf an inch too short.

An inch too short is not exactly a world ending problem.

Yeah but I saw this study where being just an inch shorter than average actually did affect people's pay over their whole career. It's not about the world ending, it's about all these small things adding up over a lifetime. People make snap judgments without even realizing it. So it might not be a big deal in one moment, but it can shape a lot of moments.
