I thought biscuit joints were for hobby guys until I fixed a sagging cabinet door with them
For years I cut mortise and tenon for every face frame because my first boss said biscuits were a shortcut for guys who didn't know how to cut a real joint. Last spring a lady in town called about a cabinet door that had dropped about 3/16 of an inch, so I popped the old joint apart on her bench and tried biscuits just to get it done fast. That repair has been holding solid for 9 months now, and I've since used biscuits on a whole run of shop cabinets that get loaded with paint cans every day. What got me was speed, I cut and glued and clamped 6 doors in under an hour when the same run in mortise and tenon eats a whole afternoon. I still use real tenons on anything structural, but for face frames and cabinet boxes I'm not going back. Anybody here run biscuits on painted built-ins long term, and how are they holding up after a few seasons of humidity swings?
