Had to pick between a Festool Domino and a $40 dowel jig for a set of dining chairs last month

I went with the budget jig because the chairs were only $300 for the set and I couldn't justify the splurge. Turned out the alignment was off by a hair on three joints and I spent all day shimming them with sawdust and glue. Has anyone else gambled on the cheap option and regretted it?

You ever get that feeling where you save 50 bucks but it costs you a whole Saturday? I did that with a sander once and ended up with splinters in places I didn't know existed.

Wait, @stellabennett, did you at least get the project done in one day or did the cheap sander make you drag it into Sunday too? I swear the worst part is when you're trying to save cash but the tool itself fights you the whole time. Like with sanders, the cheap ones just vibrate your hand numb after 10 minutes and you end up taking twice as long to get a smooth finish.
