My old boss told me to stop asking questions in meetings, and it cost me a $15k raise 2 years later
Back in 2019 my manager at a shipping company in Tampa pulled me aside and said to just nod along in meetings and never ask 'dumb' questions in front of the VP. I listened for 18 months, kept my head down, and watched two people who talked more get promoted over me. When I finally switched teams and started asking blunt questions again, my new director said that was the exact reason she picked me for a lead role with a $15k bump. Anyone else get advice that was really just someone else's fear dressed up as wisdom?
