My first boss at the shop on 5th Street told me to stop guessing and start asking
Back when I was 19 and just a kid sweeping floors at a shop on 5th Street in Canton, I tried to fix a brake job by guessing at the torque spec instead of asking. My boss Ray, who was 63 at the time, caught me and said, 'You are not paid to know everything, you are paid to find out.' He made me walk over and ask the guy at the next bay instead of looking it up myself, and that one habit of asking beats guessing every time. Does anyone else still hear an old boss's voice in their head when they start a new job?
