Found out my car weighs 300 lbs more than I thought, and it changed how I book transport
I was getting quotes to ship my 2016 Subaru Outback from Portland to Phoenix last month and kept getting wildly different prices. One broker asked me for the exact curb weight and I guessed around 3,600 lbs off the top of my head. He plugged it in and said my actual number was closer to 3,900 with a full tank and the stuff in my trunk. I went and looked it up on the door jamb sticker and he was spot on. Turns out a lot of carriers price by weight brackets, and crossing into the next bracket can add $150 or more to your quote. I had no clue that leaving a case of water and my winter gear in the back could bump me up a tier. Now I always empty the car and check the sticker before I even start calling around. Has anyone else run into a broker who actually asked for the weight instead of just the make and model?
