Warning: my sleeping bag rating was totally off for Rocky Mountain nights
Froze my butt off at 40 degrees with a bag labeled 20 degrees last week in Estes Park, then realized I never accounted for the bag's 'survival rating' vs comfort rating - anyone else learn this the hard way?

Yeah that's the big trap right there. Survival rating basically means you won't die but you'll definitely be miserable. Learned that one the hard way in the Sierras last fall.

Actually it's not even that you won't die, survival rating just means you'll probably make it out with all your fingers and toes. Hypothermia and dehydration can still take you out pretty quick if you're not careful.
