That $60 fire starter kit was pure garbage in the rain
Bought one of those fancy ferro rod kits with the wax-coated tinder last month before a trip to the Smokies. First night, light drizzle, and the tinder just crumbled into soggy dust. The rod itself threw sparks okay, but nothing caught after 20 minutes of trying. I ended up using a Bic lighter I had in my coat pocket, worked in seconds. Total waste of cash, the packaging photos made it look bulletproof. Anyone else had luck with those magnesium block starters instead?
