Tent pole snapped in a storm near Lake Almanor last month

I was camping up near Lake Almanor when a big wind gust came through around 2 AM. One of the aluminum poles on my REI Half Dome 2 just cracked right at the joint. I ended up using duct tape and a spare tent stake to splint it together, and it held for the rest of the trip. Has anyone had luck with replacement poles from REI or should I just order a generic set online?

Oh man, "cracked right at the joint" sounds about right. Been there, done that, got the duct tape to prove it. REI will sell you replacement poles, but good luck getting them to honor the warranty if you bought it more than a year ago. Honestly, I'd just grab a generic set online, they'll probably outlast the tent anyway. Why pay REI prices for something that'll break again at 2 AM in the middle of nowhere?

Three years ago I wouldve said stick with REI but after @eva243's point about generics I switched and never looked back.
