Just found out my velcro ties were slowly cutting my ethernet cable, and a $6 tester from Harbor Freight showed me
I was rewiring my TV stand in my apartment in Cincinnati on Saturday and grabbed a velcro strap that was pulled way too tight around a Cat6 run, and when I ran a cheap cable tester, two of the eight wires were dead. The strap had been squeezing that spot for maybe 14 months and the copper inside was nicked right where it bent at the corner. How tight is too tight when you strap cables down, and are zip ties even worth it if you leave a little slack?
