PSA: Stop sanding pine with 220 before you stain, I lost $180 on a built-in last week

I switched to 150 grit, raised the grain with a wet rag, hit it once more, and the blotching on a Denver kitchen job went away completely. Has anyone else found a grit that beats that, or am I just getting lucky on this one?
