Fiber line at our shop in Akron got cut by a landscaper and we lost 9 hours of business
Just a heads up for anyone running a shop on a single fiber line. Last Tuesday around 8am a landscaper nicked our buried fiber while edging the lot next door, and our whole front office went dark. Phones ran on VoIP so we lost all six lines, card readers wouldn't process, and our POS sat there looking at us like a brick for 9 straight hours. Provider said their first tech window was 24 to 48 hours, which is insane when you're a retail shop doing $3,800 on a normal Tuesday. I ended up tethering the POS to my phone hotspot and running cards through a reader app, but half our staff couldn't clock in and the back office printer was dead in the water. We're now looking at a second line from a different carrier just for failover, even though it's another $140 a month. Curious if anyone here runs a backup connection and what you went with, or if a cheap LTE router is enough for a small shop?
