Got stranded in Memphis for 6 hours when my bus broke down

Back in 2019 I was trying to save cash by taking Greyhound from Nashville to New Orleans. The bus broke down just outside Memphis around midnight and we sat there for 6 hours waiting for a replacement. I had packed a peanut butter sandwich and a bottle of water in my carry on, which saved me from paying $8 for stale vending machine chips at the station. The lady next to me had no food and was about to cry so I split my sandwich with her. We ended up talking for hours and she gave me a tip about using hostel kitchenettes to cook your own meals. That one tip probably saved me $50 on that trip alone. Has anyone else had a travel breakdown turn into a money saving lesson?

Sat in an Atlanta airport for seven hours once and learned how to spot the best cheap airport food by watching workers.

Workers usually eat for free or get big discounts, so their picks are spot on. But in my experience, the hidden gems get crowded fast once people catch on. @river_adams25, you might've just stumbled onto the best travel hack that stops working the second it goes viral.
