Am I the only one who got suckered by the airport express train in Rome?
I paid 14 euros for the Leonardo Express into Termini, then found out the regional train to the same station costs 8 and takes like 10 more minutes. Standing on that platform watching my cheap ticket option roll away really stung. Anyone got a rule for when the slow train is actually the smart pick?
That 6 euro gap stings for sure, especially when you're standing there with your luggage watching the cheap train pull out. I did the same thing in Milan last spring, paid for the Malpensa Express and then saw the regular train was half the price. My rough rule now is if the trip is over an hour, pay for the fast one, but under an hour the slow train usually wins. The other thing I check is how often the cheap train runs, because saving 6 euros isn't worth a 40 minute wait on a hot platform.
