Switched from a big name broker to a small local one in Boise and the difference was $340
I had been with one of the big online brokers for about 4 years and kept eating random $8 and $12 fees I never understood. Last September a guy at my gym in Boise mentioned his local broker charges a flat $4.95 a trade with no account fee, so I moved half my stuff over just to test it. First statement came back clean, no surprises, and the guy actually picked up the phone when I called about a transfer. After 6 months I moved the rest and I'm saving right around $340 a year. Has anyone else gone from a big broker to a small one and regretted it later?
