I used to trust star ratings on broker review sites, then I read the fine print on a 4.9 star page
I always sorted by highest rating and went with whoever had the most stars, which is how I almost opened an account with a broker that had a 4.9 on one review site. Then I noticed 38 of their 42 reviews were posted in the same 9 day window, all with the same weird phrasing like "smooth withdrawal process" and no real details. A guy at my office in Chicago showed me how to check if a broker is actually registered with FINRA and the SEC, and that one search took 2 minutes and saved me a headache. Now I read the 2 and 3 star reviews first because that's where people actually explain what went wrong. Anyone else notice these review pages get flooded right after a broker runs a promo?
