Showerthought: The lady who talked to her orchid for 20 minutes at the garden center
Last Saturday I was at a nursery in Santa Cruz picking up some soil, and this older woman was just STANDING there in front of a sad looking orchid. She was whispering to it, like full sentences about how it needed to "find its light" and I thought she was totally nuts at first. She turned around and caught me staring, then just smiled and said "plants can hear your intentions, honey" before walking off. I still don't know if I believe her, but my fern has been doing way better ever since I started talking to it. Has anyone else had a moment like that where a stranger made you rethink something simple?

bro I literally laughed out loud reading this because I did the exact same thing last week. i was at Home Depot staring at this dying succulent and this dude in his 60s walks up and starts telling me how he sings to his basil every morning and I was like "okay boomer" in my head. but then he showed me a picture of his basil and it was like a Christmas tree sized basil plant so now I just whisper compliments to my cactus every day and it has not died yet so I'm pretty sure the old plant lady was onto something. plants are weird man they probably just like hearing voices and thinking someone gives a damn about them. your fern is thriving because you're paying attention to it not because it hears your thoughts but honestly who cares if it works it works.
