Shoutout to my neighbor Bob for warning me about planting mint directly in the ground
Bob told me last spring that mint would take over my whole garden bed if I didn't keep it in a pot. I ignored him and now six months later it's spreading under the fence into my lawn. Has anyone else had luck killing mint without digging up half the yard?

Mint is relentless once it gets established, I've seen people have better luck solarizing the area with black plastic than trying to dig it all out. Just pull what you can see and then cover it for a full season...

Nah, I gotta disagree here. Solarizing works for some stuff but mint is just too tough. I've dug up mint rhizomes that were two feet deep and still found more the next year. Black plastic might slow it down but mint can pop right back up from a tiny piece left behind. You really have to physically remove every bit of root you can find, then keep pulling anything that shows up for a couple years straight.
