Showerthought: a guy at the hardware store saw my paperback and said 'life's too short to finish a bad one'
I was in line at the Ace on 5th last Saturday and the guy behind me nodded at the novel sticking out of my jacket pocket. I told him I'd been stuck on page 90 of it for three weeks, and he just shrugged and said that line about life being too short. Twenty years ago I would have forced myself through it out of some weird guilt, back when I felt like quitting a story meant I lost. Now I've got a shelf of half-read paperbacks and zero shame about it. Curious how many of you have that one book you keep restarting and putting down, and what finally made you let it go for good?
