Heard a dad in Barnes and Noble tell his kid 'books are just movies that take too long'
I was killing time in the bookstore on 5th Street while my wife shopped, and a guy near the sci-fi shelf said that to his maybe 9 year old son. The kid nodded and put back the book he was holding. I did not say anything, but it bugged me the rest of the day. Here is my worry: if you hand a kid a screen first, the slow part of a story starts to feel like punishment instead of the whole point. A book that wrecked me in high school only did that because I sat in it for days, bored at first, then gut punched around page 200. Curious if anyone here has had luck pulling a kid back from that mindset, or if I am overthinking one comment I overheard.
