Beware the 'gently used' anime box sets on eBay, got burned for $85

I ordered a complete series set that was listed as 'gently used' with photos showing perfect spines. When it arrived, half the discs were scratched to hell and two had actual cracks in the center hub. The seller wouldn't take it back after I filed a claim, said it was my fault for not asking more questions. Cost me $85 plus shipping to learn that lesson. Anyone else get fooled by those glossy photos that hide the real damage?

Read a forum thread about this exact scam last week. Turns out some sellers use photo editing to make scratches disappear, or they take photos of a different set entirely and send you the junk copy. The cracked center hubs are a dead giveaway they pulled the discs out carelessly, probably from a rental library or a used store that let people handle them rough. For $85 you could have bought a new set during a sale or even a legit secondhand listing from someone who actually watched it and took care of it. My rule now is if the listing says 'gently used' and the price is too good, I ask for a dated photo with the discs out of the case and a close up of the hubs. If they hesitate or give excuses, walk away. It sucks you got burned, but at least you can warn others before they drop that kind of cash.
