Three years in and I finally learned to mark my shell plate before burning it

Last week in the Port Allen shop I watched a first-year guy nail a layout in ten minutes using soapstone dots I'd never thought to do, so I asked him about it and he said his old foreman made him mark every plate before even lighting up, and that one tip saved me from re-cutting a 4-foot manway opening I'd been dreading.
