Foreman handed me a 6010 rod and said whip it, cost us 4 hours on a Michigan stack
Got sent to a job in Flint to weld out a 30 inch stack and the foreman told me to whip and pause the 6010 root passes like we always did on pipe. We ran 6 test coupons and every root came back with incomplete fusion at the toes, so the inspector flagged the whole section and we cut it out. Is anyone else seeing guys teach the whip on open roots when a straight drag with a slight backstep holds a better tie in, or is it just who I keep getting paired with?
