Why does scoring apps kill the fun at my Friday group

Our 6 person group in Denver stuck phones face down in a bowl last month and the game nights got way better. We just write scores on a dry erase board now and nobody freaks over a 2 point math error. Anyone got a house rule that fixed a group habit like this?
